The "mysterious school comedy" centers on the unusual members of a high-school literary club. Touko Amano, a high-school senior who calls herself the "literary girl" as the club president, is actually a supernatural creature (youkai) that devours stories — she tears pages from books to munch on them. Her club subordinate is Konoha Inoue, a second-year high-school boy who writes stories every day for Amano to eat. He once wrote an award-winning novel, but he wrote it under the penname Miu Inoue so readers thought the author was a mysterious 14-year-old bishoujo novelist. The stress from the novel's fame and its movie and television drama plans turned Inoue into an introverted recluse.

Elsewhere, the Gourmet Hunter Toriko is seen dining in a luxury hotel where he is being briefed by the young chef Komatsu on a request to capture a Baron Bison. Toriko perks up at the idea of capturing it and complies with the request and prepares to set off in the morning.

One day, Sakuya visits the site of a recently destroyed research facility to look for parts. Instead, he finds a robot in the rubble. The robot awakened here with no memory, mission, or purpose. Sakuya is taken aback by the robot because it appears incredibly human-like, unlike any other robot he's ever seen. The robot is visibly upset and lost with no purpose, so Sakuya simply tells it to decide for itself, like a human. The robot, Haku, decides to follow Sakuya and make itself useful to him.

Persona 4 spin-off set one year after the end of Persona 4, Naoto is asked to investigate the mysterious disappearances of two Yagakoro students by an old detective friend, Touko Aoi. There, she is partnered with Sousei Kurogami, a mechanical detective and a polar opposite to her in terms of personality and methodology. In their first encounter, she awakens to a new persona Amatsu Mikaboshi, which enables her to amplify Sousei's persona ability, Tsukuyomi. Together with Sousei, she discovers the Midnight Site, an anonymous site where judgment is passed on others by five judges named after figures in Japanese mythology—Uzume, Sarutahiko, Omoikane, Tajikarao, and Futotama.


However, it quickly becomes apparent that this case and another under Touko's supervision are related when one of the five judges turns up dead with ballistics pointing to a missing police officer's gun. Naoto and the others must discover the identity of the other judges to protect them and find out the culprit who seeks to kill them.
